2313 – SENIOR PROJECT ENGINEER

A global manufacturing leader is hiring a Senior Project Engineer for its Mid-Willamette Valley facility.  The Senior Project Engineer will perform engineering design and project management assignments to support multiple capital projects (CAPEX) and other duties as assigned.  An ideal candidate will exercise independent decision-making, apply technical engineering knowledge to problem solving, and implement continuous improvement measures in all aspects of the project.   In addition, an ideal candidate will be a great communicator and able to collaborate with all project team members from maintenance to operations to site leadership and contractors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist engineering staff in planning and execution of major capital projects.
  • Manage projects from inception to completion.
  • Assist with project budget and justification as required for capital project funding.
  • Develop project bid documents and proposals for project budget estimating.
  • Develop project scope, budget, schedule, and identifies preferred resources to complete installation.
  • Leads the contract bidding process including writing specifications, estimating project costs, preparing bid documents, reviewing contractor qualifications, participating in meetings with contractors.
  • Manage project installation contractors and ensure compliance with site policies and procedures.
  • Perform project management duties including preparation of cost estimates, serving as liaison between Company and contractor, checking progress and quality of work, keeping project records, recording changes as they occur and making reports.
  • Inspection of equipment installations and construction work to ensure compliance with construction drawings, permits, and other codes and standards as applicable.
  • Conduct engineering research that may include a review of current literature, field investigations, pilot studies, contact with public agencies and computer search; analyzes and reports on data gathered, including cost/benefit ratios for alternative methodologies. Provides technical advice to research and maintenance personnel.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities and develop action plans for approved projects.
  • Practice lean manufacturing principles and change management processes.
  • Ensure document control for maintenance and engineering documents is followed (manuals, drawings, etc.).
  • Participate with the maintenance team to identify and procure critical spares for project equipment.
  • Contribute to facility ISO 9001 certification with project related design.
  • Complies with safety, environmental, and quality requirements established by external and internal regulations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mechanical Engineer Degree
  • 3-5 years of experience in related work,
  • Project management skills and experience
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, etc)

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of experience in engineering design and management of capital project installations
  • Experience in industrial manufacturing or heavy construction related environments.
  • Training in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENT:

  • Have the ability to interact at all times of the day with employees, contractors, agency representatives and members of the community in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of high stress.
  • Have the ability to frequently sit at a computer, potentially for extended periods of time.
  • Have the ability to walk regularly throughout the facility while wearing the appropriate PPE: steel toed boots, hearing protection, safety eyewear and respiratory protection.
  • Have the ability to occasionally lift objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Have the ability to regularly climb roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs and walk elevated catwalks.
  • Have the stamina to stand and flexibility to stretch/reach, bend/stoop, and squat and kneel repetitively during the work day.
  • Work involves occasional exposure to environments with high levels of heat, noise and dust.
